Bio(I originally had something snarky here but as I start using this for professionalish encounters I figured I should put in something at least vaguely reasonable. If you're a potential future employer, you should possibly ignore all this and go read my resume instead.)
The short version: I'm a forever-27 vegan biker dyke trying to thrive simultaneously in industry and academia while maintaining active creative and social lives. If that sounds busy, it's because it is.
Professionally, I work for a tech company in Cambridge, MA, USA. I do documentation and customer support, and have touched product code, though it's been a long time and it may have been a bad idea. :) I've also done consulting in the past in tech writing, software service sales, and book design, but right now I'm not able to handle any work on top of my full-time job, because of the things I do academically, which include my studies at University of Massachusetts Boston toward an MA in English. My non-creative-writing courses have led me to a focus on race and gender passing — in brief, people crossing identity boundaries — in fiction and autobiography. I'm actually teaching a class on this at MIT in February 2009 (syllabus link forthcoming when the syllabus is done). This is all really exciting, and means I don't get to put quite as much time as I might like into my personal projects, which include a Crawl server (it's like NetHack, but harder), a nascent literary journal called Place/Time that's part of what will hopefully turn out to be a literary press, a probably-never-going-to-get-off-the-ground band, and writing fiction and poetry.
Oh, and I'm told I throw an excellent party. :)
